Top ten boards on the popular systems are a good start. Once a day should suffice for fetching: chances are plenty of other people are doing the same thing, but not all at the same time.

Also, notable games that aren't on the top ten get overlooked a lot. Anything with "Mario" in it, for one, normally has quite a few users. If a game is marginally popular and not on the top ten, odds are it's got plenty of users waiting to be fetched.
